Week beginning 15th June

Here are some suggestions for this week's activities.

Maths 

I would like you to continue with the topic of measures. This week I would like you to begin to look at capacity and weight measurements e.g. grams and kilograms – litres and millilitres. If you are doing some cooking you could help to weigh out and measure the ingredients. You could also look on packets and containers to see how much they hold.

Geography

This week I would like you to imagine that you have been on a visit to Chester and write a postcard home. The following clips might help you.

Spanish

This week I would like you to find out the names of different vegetables in Spanish. Choose a selection of vegetables to draw and label them in Spanish and English.

RE

This week I would like you to watch and the Bible story of The Rich Young Man. (Matthew 19:16-30, Mark 10:17-31, Luke 18:18-30). Can you think about the following questions? Why was the man sad when he heard Jesus’ comment?  Did he try to change? What made it difficult for him to change? 

Week beginning 8th June

Here are some suggestions for this week's activities.

Maths

I would like you to continue to do some measuring of length in mm, cm and m. Find some things at home that you can measure and compare.

I have also set four 2dos on Purplemash

  • Multiplication checker
  • Longer/Shorter – Taller/Smallest (Revision tasks)
  • Convert units of measurement (Trickier)
  • Units of measurement.

 Have fun.

Science

We are continuing to find out about plants. I would like you to look again at what plants need to grow. This week I would like you to find out how plants take in water and how water is transported within a plant. There are some video clips that you can use to help you.

RE

This half term we are looking at Bible stories which show how Jesus changed the lives of people he met. This week I would like you to watch the video clip of the calling of Levi (Matthew). Can you think about what was important to Levi before and after?

Week beginning 1st June

Here are some suggested activities for this week.

Maths

In maths we are thinking about measures, so this week, if you can, I would like you to do some measuring of length in mm, cm and m. Find some things at home that you can measure. Have fun.

Geography

I would like you to see if you can find Chester on a map. Imagine you are going to travel to Chester for the day. How would you get there? I would like you to plan a simple route to Chester either by road or by rail. 

Spanish

Use the link to find out the names of different fruit in Spanish. Choose your favourite fruits to draw in a fruit bowl. Add labels in both Spanish and English.

Summer 2

Week beginning 18th May

Here are some suggestions for this week's activities.

Maths

Please continue with learning how to tell the time in different ways.  

Can you tell the time to the nearest minute? Can you tell the time on a Roman numeral clock? Can you use a 12 hour and a 24 hour clock?

There are three 2dos set on Purple mash for you to complete including a clock faces pairs game.

Multiplication tables

This week we would also like you to revise your times tables. Remember in Year 3, the focus is knowing x2, x3, x4, x5, x8, and x10.

There is a 2do on Purple mash called Monster Multiplication for you to complete.

Science

This week in our science topic of plants, the focus is on plants as a food.

Can you make a list of plants that can be eaten?

Can you find out about the different parts of plants that can be eaten? 

Look at the foods that you eat over the week and think about which ingredients have come from plants. Can you find any interesting facts about plants as a food?

History

This week I would like you to find out about Boudica.

Here  are some  questions for you to think about. Who was she? Where was she from? What did she look like? What did she do? Why is she remembered?

There are two tasks for you to choose from – or you could do both.

  • Create a ‘WANTED’ poster for Boudica.
  • Write a newspaper report about what happened to Boudica

These can either be done on Purple mash (2dos have been set) or you can create your own on paper. Be creative and have fun.

Week beginning 11th May

Here are some suggestions for this week's activities.

Maths

Please continue with learning how to tell the time in different ways.  Can you tell the time to the nearest quarter of an hour, to the nearest 5 minutes, to the nearest minute? Can you tell the time on a Roman numeral clock?

As an extra challenge, can you use a 12 hour and a 24 hour clock?

There are three 2dos set on Purple mash for you to complete including a clock faces pairs game.

Science

We are learning about plants in science. This week I would like you to find out what the different parts of a plant are called. Can you draw a plant and label each part? Can you find out the function of each part?

I would also like you to find out what a plant needs to grow. Can you find out about a plant that can survive in different conditions?

There are some 2dos set on Purple mash about plants.

Music

This week I would like you to have some musical fun. There are 2dos set on Purple mash for you to try. For instructions press the video help button at the top right of the page.

2explore. This looks at the different sounds that can be made. 

2beat. This involves counting in 8s and creating a rhythm.

History

Please continue to find out about what it would have been like living in Roman Britain. Can you find out what the towns and houses were like? How did people keep clean? What did they do for entertainment? Can you also find out the names of some Roman towns in Britain? You might want to find out what the Romans ate and the foods that they introduced to Britain.

Here are some suggestions for this week's activities.

Maths

For the next three weeks in maths, our activities are focused on telling the time. Can you find different clocks in your home? Which of them are analogue and which are digital? I would like you to have a go at telling the time in different ways. Can you tell the time to the nearest quarter of an hour? Can you tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes? Can you tell the time to the nearest minute?

Linking with our Romans topic, I would like you to see if you can tell the time on a Roman numeral clock?

We have been doing a lot of work about using inverted commas to show direct speech in school. Can you write a short conversation that you might have in your house, using inverted commas and setting it out correctly? 

There is a BBC bitesize activity that will remind you how to do this.

History

For the next two weeks I would like you to find out about what it would have been like living in Roman Britain. Can you find out what the towns and houses were like? How did people keep clean? What did they do for entertainment? Can you also find out the names of some Roman towns in Britain?

Art

This week, continue with your mosaic activities on purple mash and/or make your own mosaic using small pieces (squares) of coloured paper.

ICT

Continue to work through the '2dos' set last week on purple mash about branching databases.

Week beginning 27th April

Here are some suggestions for this week's activities. 

Maths

This week use the game activity below to order and compare fractions. 

You can also continue to work on your calculations. Again, there is no need to print the sheets out.

History

This week, find out about the Roman Army? You could find out - How was it organised? Why was it so powerful? What was the training like? What equipment and weapons did they use? What was it like to be a Roman soldier?

Have a go at completing one of the activities below. (or you could do both!)

  • Draw and label a Roman soldier, showing the armour and equipment they would have.
  • Imagine that you are a Roman soldier who is now living in a fort in Britain. Can you write a letter home to your family in Italy describing what life as a Roman soldier is like?

Art

This week, find out about mosaics. Look at the mosaic designs of Antoni Gaudi and the mosaics the Romans used in their villas.

Here are some mosaic activities for you to try over the next few weeks.

  • Plan and make your own mosaic picture. A simple design usually works best. For the mosaic tiles you can use small pieces of coloured paper from old magazines etc.
  • Create a mosaic using Purple mash. This will set this as a 2do.

RE

This half term we are thinking about Rules. Have a think about the different rules you know – at home, school, in the community, on the roads etc.

Imagine that you are the ruler of the world or home or school. What rules would you have?

You could display them on a poster and illustrate your ideas.

ICT

This week we are exploring Branching data bases using 2Question on Purple mash. There are two 2dos set.

  • Explore a completed branching data base about fruit. Use the play button to identify a fruit. 
  • Complete a complete a data base about vegetables by adding in the questions. Use the play button to test it.

Summer 1 

Hello everybody and welcome back. I hope you all had a wonderful, safe Easter Break and a well-deserved rest! 

Week Beginning 20th April 2020

Here are some suggestions for activities for this week.

Maths

Before school finished we were learning about Fractions. Have a go at these Fraction activities.

There is also an arithmetic booklet to revise the calculations that we have learned. 

You do not need to print out the work - use your squared book to draw diagrams and write the answers.

History

This half term we are learning about the Romans. The challenge this week is to find out about the Roman Empire. How did it start? Where and what was the Roman Empire? We would particularly like you to find out why the Romans wanted to come to Britain and when this happened.

Can you design a poster to convince the Roman army why it is a good idea to invade Britain?

If you would like an extra challenge,  write a newspaper report about the invasion of Britain. (You could do this using Purple Mash in the Romans section)

Art

Our focus this half term is on the artist Antoni Gaudi. Can you do some research and find out about his life and work? Where is he from? What is he famous for? What do you like/dislike about his work?

Spanish

We are learning about Pets in Spanish this half term. Can you find out the names of some pets in Spanish. Choose some pets to create your own Pet Shop picture, drawing the pets and labelling them in Spanish.

ICT

In ICT this half term we will be investigating and using data bases. The first activity is asking yes/ no questions to identify an item from a group (Like 'Guess who?')

Use the fruit images or instrument images provided (or make some of your own) to make your own 'Guess who/what?' game. Remember to ask questions that can only be answered yes or no.

Can you create your own themed pictures to play a similar game?

MUSIC

In School we follow the Charanga scheme of work. This term it is a song called ‘Bringing us together’ which is a disco type song. It involves looking at rhythm, beat and tempo. There are links to some other songs too.

Here are some suggestions for activities for this week.

MATHS

Here are some fun Maths activities using the four rules of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 

ENGLISH

  • Write a book review about a book you have read. This could be one of your own books from home or one from the Oxford Owl online library. The link is on the webpage.
  • Spellings – Use the Topmarks Look, write, cover, check activity for a fun way to revise spellings. (link is on the website page)

RE

Watch and read the Easter story. Can you design your own Easter card?

 

HISTORY

The Egyptians had many gods for lots of different purposes. Can you find out about Egyptian Gods? 

Can you design your own Egyptian God?

It can have a mixture of animal and human features. What will it be the god of? What is its name? What will it carry? What special powers will it have?

Is it kind or not?

Art

We have been learning about the painter Georges Seurat. He invented a technique called Pointillism which uses small dots of colour to create a picture.

Can the children create their own picture using Pointillism? It could be of anything they like – an Egyptian landscape with pyramids, a garden, a sea scene, an animal – be as creative as you can.

 

In class, and on our visit to the World Museum, we have been learning about how and why the Ancient Egyptians made mummies. Check out the link below, but remember don't try this at home and don't use up any toilet roll.
We have been learning all about rocks and soils in science. Find out about the life and work of Mary Anning, an English fossil collector and palaeontologist by looking at the link below.
